Role Summary

The Grants and Proposals Manager develops, coordinates, and submits high-quality grant applications, donor proposals, and related fundraising materials for international programs. This role combines strategic fundraising, persuasive writing, cross-functional project management, and donor stewardship support. The successful candidate will work closely with leadership, program staff, finance, and external partners to identify funding opportunities, shape compelling cases for support, and ensure proposals are compliant, evidence-based, and aligned with the organisation’s mission and impact goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, assess, and track institutional funding opportunities from foundations, philanthropic bodies, multilateral agencies, and aligned donors.

  • Lead end-to-end development of grant applications, concept notes, donor reports, and proposals, ensuring submissions are high quality, timely, and tailored to funder priorities.

  • Collaborate with program, research, advocacy, and leadership teams to gather inputs, develop project narratives, define outcomes, and articulate monitoring and evaluation approaches.

  • Maintain a submission calendar, including deadlines, reporting obligations, and relationship management activities.

  • Support donor engagement by preparing briefing notes, capability statements, presentations, and tailored communication materials.

  • Conduct prospect research on funders and partnership opportunities.

  • Ensure all submissions meet donor guidelines, legal and compliance requirements, and internal approval standards.

  • Contribute to post-award handover processes and support accurate grant reporting in coordination with relevant teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.

  • Demonstrated experience in grant writing, proposal development, institutional fundraising, or business development.

  • Proven track record of preparing successful competitive proposals and donor-facing materials.

  • Strong understanding of donor compliance, proposal budgeting, and reporting requirements.

  • Experience in an international, human rights, governance, watchdog, or policy-focused environment is highly desirable.

  • Excellent written English with the ability to translate complex ideas into clear, persuasive, and evidence-based proposals.
